Pricing FAQ
Is the free tier really free forever?
▾
Yes. The free tier is not a trial. There is no time limit, no expiry date, and no automatic upgrade. You keep access to your 5 ducks and all free-tier features for as long as you use the platform. We will announce any changes at least 90 days in advance.
What does Galaxy 1.2 cost?
▾
Galaxy 1.2 pricing has not been finalised. We will publish exact pricing before launch. Join the Galaxy 1.2 waitlist to be notified and to lock in early-adopter pricing if offered.
What does self-hosting actually cost on AWS?
▾
For a typical small fleet (under 50 requests/minute), AWS Lambda, DynamoDB on-demand, Cognito, and S3 will cost roughly $1–5/month. Lambda is free up to 1M requests/month. DynamoDB on-demand charges per read/write unit. See the open-source page for the full infra breakdown.
Can I switch from managed to self-hosted?
▾
Yes. The managed Galaxy and the self-hosted stack share the same open-source engine and the same data schemas. Export your birth certificates and duck metadata, deploy the stack on your own account, and re-import. Migration documentation will be published with Galaxy 1.2.
Are there overage charges on the free tier?
▾
No. The free tier has a hard limit of 5 ducks. If you reach the limit you will be prompted to upgrade to Galaxy 1.2 or self-host. You will never receive an unexpected bill from Duck Galaxy. We do not have a credit card on file for free-tier users.
Is the comparison table above final for Galaxy 1.2?
▾
The feature list for Galaxy 1.2 reflects the planned scope as of Galaxy 1.1 Beta. Features may be adjusted before launch. The free-tier column is final for the current release.
